The Hinterschnabel farm is first documented around 1694. In 1985, Ellmau’s former mayor Johann Leitner took over his mother’s farm in the Faistenbichl district and has been managing it ever since.
Until the film crew of The Bergdoktor took an interest in the farm in 2007, the property had no electricity and its residential flats were unused. To create the Mountain Doctor’s practice, the former living rooms of the farmhouse were lovingly modified and renovated. Hans Leitner continues to cultivate the pastures and fields surrounding the Hinterschnabel farm.
The people of Ellmau are proud of their new landmark. Admired by around 8 million viewers on television for several weeks every year, it attracts many tourists to the Tirolean mountains.
In summer, the original film set can be visited every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 09:30 to 12:00. Please note that there may be changes due to filming. The current opening status and opening hours can be found in the entry.
