Nature reserve in eastern Tirol

Wilder Kaiser? Zahmer Kaiser? Or is it the Kaisergebirge mountain range? With so many names, it’s easy to get confused. The "Wilder Kaiser," for which the region around the four Wilder Kaiser villages of Ellmau, Going, Scheffau and Söll is named Ellmau, Going, Scheffau und Söll, forms the “Kaisergebirge mountain range" in combination with the "Zahmen Kaiser in the north and the "Niederkaiser" in the east."
The Kaisergebirge nature reserve, which includes all the peaks of the Wilder Kaiser and the Zahmer Kaiser, covers an area of 92,6 square kilometres. There is a single, artificial lift, the Kaiserlift Kufstein chairlift, which leads up to the Brentenjoch mountain in the beautiful Kaisertal valley. Additional lift and cable car projects were not completed for reasons of nature conservation. More lifts aren’t even necessary: the connected Kitzbüheler Alpen ski resort as the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental, which is located on the nearby grassy slopes of the Kitzbuehel Alps offers skiing fans perfect infrastructure. All the while, you can enjoy the untouched nature of the Wilder Kaiser mountain range as you ski.
Did you know that...
...the Wilder Kaiser region has received several awards for its network of hiking trails?
Learn moreThe Kaisergebirge mountain range is popular with hikers, mountaineers, nature lovers and summer holidaymakers alike. After all, nature sets the tone here, whereas man has always been just a guest. Things might have turned out differently if the Kaisergebirge mountain range had not been designated a nature reserve in the 1960s.
