Advent at the Wilder Kaiser
Christmas markets and Advent events
The Wilder Kaiser region is especially atmospheric in the run-up to Christmas. Historic village squares are transformed into charming Advent markets, filled with regional arts and crafts. Highlights include the Christmas market in Going and the Söll Nativity Advent, both of which invite you to take a leisurely stroll through snow-covered villages, accompanied by the spicy scent of mulled wine and the gentle sounds of traditional folk music.
For a unique Advent experience at 1,555 metres above sea level, take the Hartkaiserbahn cable car in Ellmau to the mountaintop Advent market at Ellmi’s Magic World. Another special experience awaits in Scheffau, where the Advent market along the Kneippweg winds through an enchanting forest setting.
But before the quiet season begins in earnest, things take a louder turn: in early December, around St Nicholas’ Day, the fearsome figures of Krampus and Perchten make their traditional appearance – a wild spectacle full of noise, mischief and fascination.
