Traditional 'Almabtrieb'

Description

The Almabtrieb takes place each year at the end of September.

Cows are festively decorated early in the morning as a symbol of thanks for an accident-free summer on the mountain pastures.
Local farmers and producers of fresh products like cheese, bacon and bread, lead the cattle past the alpine huts all the way down to the valley.
At approximately noon, the cows start arriving in the village accompanied by the sounds of a brass band. The journey from the mountain down to the village is then celebrated before the cows make their way to their winter home - the stables. If experiencing a traditional festival is your thing, then you´re right at Almabtrieb.
