Ellmauer local history museum "Beim Wegmacher"
Built in 1555 as a miners' house, the house was rebuilt in 1898 by a master carpenter, the son of the Wegmacher Johann Widauer, after an eventful past, as we find it today in his capacity as a museum of local history.
From June to September always open on Friday from 2pm to 6pm, and July & August also on Monday from 7:30pm to 9pm (no registration). During the winter months the museum is closed.
In July & August you can take part in a torchlight hike "Fire and Flame", which is suitable for young and old, as part of the weekly programme. This short hike takes you to the local museum on Mondays, where you can enjoy folk music and stalls. You can register for the torchlight hike at www.wilderkaiser.info/events
"Riedhaus" - the story of a proud farm
The farm "Ried", which was enthroned above Ellmau am Hartkaiser for about 450 years, stood empty for a long time and had to make way for the construction of the new gondola route. So now it found a new worthy home in the valley on the hamlet of the local history museum. After successful dismantling and reconstruction, the Ried-Hof can be visited there and its history can be felt.
