The Maria-Heimsuchungskapelle, also called Marienkapelle, is located above the chapel park near the centre of the village of Ellmau and is the landmark of the community.
It was built in 1719 by postmaster Johann Kaisermann and consecrated seven years later by Bishop Karl Josef von Chiemsee. From 1988 - 1990 a general renovation took place.
The chapel contains a baroque altar with the altar leaf "Maria Heimsuchung", painted by Alois Wagner from Hall in 1831.
Next to it are the patron saints of cattle, Leonhard and New Year's Eve. On the altar there is a copy of the Maria Hilf-Madonna by Lucas Cranach. The vault shows images from the rosary.
